Too close to the sun
Usually, visitors only read success stories of finished projects here. But today we want to share a case that unfortunately didn’t make it to the end because the company closed down before our contribution could be published.
US-based Aerion was a pioneer in a market that has been untapped since the Concorde landed for the last time in 2003: faster-than-sound commercial air travel (> 1,225 km/h).
We worked on this project from 2015-2016 and our task was to create the Chinese brand name and name their first business jet, the AS2.
After extensive research and ideation, we planned and conducted interviews in Hong Kong and Beijing with highly unique groups of stakeholders – aviation experts as well as “high net worth individuals” who could potentially afford to buy or lease the first ever supersonic private jet.
As we narrowed down the brand name candidates it became clear this project would be shelfed for a while and unfortunately, in 2021, the company shut down business permanently.
As of now, there is still no supersonic commercial flight available.
A unique project for us and a pity it didn’t work out. Read the full story on Wikipedia:
